Adding Breaker Boards

Breaker boards are popular for use with composite decking. Composites have a tendency to expand as they age. To keep the deck looking good over time, deck professionals use breaker boards. These boards run perpendicular to the deck surface. Breaker boards are used to control expansion by keeping decking the same length.

The deck on the left shows a breaker board down the center of the deck; the deck on the right shows herringbone dividers.

Add Breaker Boards

1. Click Add in the Home ribbon.
2. Click Breaker Board (for traditional decking surfaces) or Herringbone Divider (for herringbone surfaces).
3. To place the breaker board, click an area of the deck.
4. When finished, press the ESC key to return to the deck design.
